UPDATE: Victims Identified Following Ionia Road Rage Incident

Two Ionia men are dead following a shoot out Wednesday that resulted after a road rage incident, according to police.

The men have been identified as 43-year-old James Pullum and 56-year-old Robert Taylor, both of Ionia. The two exchanged words and then gunfire with both men shooting each other.

Police said it happened around 7pm Wednesday when the two men pulled off the road and into the parking lot of the Wonder Wand Auto Wash on Steele St. just off M-66 in downtown Ionia.

Witnesses said they heard multiple shots.

"One was laying in between the cars and another was laying on the other side of the car," said Allen Daggett.

Daggett said some good samaritans came to the scene from a nearby laundromat and attempted to resuscitate one of the victims.

"The guy at the laundromat ran down here to do CPR on the guy... trying to save the guy's life," he said.

Both men were rushed to the hospital and were pronounced dead shortly after.

"I think it's crazy that in a small town like Ionia people have to die," Daggett said.

The Ionia Department of Public Safety Director Troy Thomas said both men had valid concealed carry licenses.

The names of the victims were not released Wednesday night.
