Ingham County Clerk Barb Byrum has taken her name out of the mix for Congressman Mike Rogers' seat.
Rogers announced he's retiring from Congress in late March and will take a job with a national radio show.
In a statement released to News 10, Byrum says she can best serve the people of Michigan by continuing her role as Ingham County Clerk. She also thanks everyone for their support and looks forward to working with them in the weeks and months ahead.
“Continuing to serve as Ingham County Clerk allows me to more directly fight for issues that will move our state forward, including election and redistricting reform and equal rights for all Michiganders," said Byrum in a statement released Tuesday afternoon.
"Staying in Michigan will also provide the best opportunity to push back against the attacks on women’s health and encourage more women to run for office—and win. While partisan gridlock in Congress prevents anything meaningful from being accomplished, my work here in Michigan has a real effect on people’s lives and that’s what drives my commitment to public service."
