UPDATE - Bank Robbery Suspect Found Dead After Standoff

Shiawassee County Officials have confirmed that the suspect wanted after a robbery, has been found dead, apparently as a result of suicide by hanging, in a deer blind located in a wooded area of just south of Grand River Road in Shiawassee County off I-69.

At around 10:30 pm a tactical deployment was made on the deer blind by members of the Michigan State Police Emergency Services Team, and the suspect was found dead inside of the blind. He had apparently taken his own life by hanging.

He had earlier fled the scene of a robbery of a PNC Bank in Meridian Township. He drove east on I-69 where he was forced off the highway and into the median near Bancroft, where he abandoned his vehicle, and went into the woods on foot. Police followed his tracks to a hunting blind. They saw movement inside and brought a chopper in to monitor the area. The situation settled into a standoff that lasted until a little after 11pm.

Shiawassee Sheriff's Office was assisted by the Michigan State Police, Corunna Police, Vernon Police, Durand Police, Bancroft Police, Perry Police, and agents from the Lansing office of the FBI. The incident remains under investigation, but police do not believe there are any suspects that remain outstanding. The identification of the suspect is pending, notification of his next of kin.
