Two Firefighters Taken to Hospital After Roof Collapse

Two Jackson firefighters were treated and released from the hospital after a porch roof collapsed on top of them while fighting a blaze on Horton Street early Monday morning.

JACKSON - Two firefighters were hurt when a porch roof collapsed on them as they were putting down a blaze. The fire happened at around 2 a.m. in the 100 block of N. Horton Street in Jackson. When firefighters arrived, the entire front of the two-story house was engulfed in flames.

Two Jackson firefighters were struck by debris from the porch roof. They were take to Allegiance Hospital's emergency room, where they were treated and released.

The fire severely damaged the house that is divided into three apartments. Firefighters say all three apartments have people living in them, but no one was home at the time of the fire.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

The Jackson Fire Department was assisted by Blackman Township, Summit Township, and Spring Arbor Township firefighters.
