DETROIT (AP) -- Four men have been ordered to stand trial on attempted murder charges in the severe beating of a motorist who accidentally struck a 10-year-old Detroit boy with his pickup truck.

One of the four waived his right to test the evidence Monday. The others were ordered to trial after their statements to police were introduced as evidence. Two witnesses also testified.

Steve Utash spent days in a coma and remains hospitalized after the April 2 beating in Detroit. He was attacked while trying to help a boy he had accidentally hit with his pickup.

The defendants are Bruce Wimbush Jr., Latrez Cummings, James Davis and Wonzey Saffold. Wimbush waived the hearing.

Separately, a 16-year-old boy is charged in Juvenile Court with assault and ethnic intimidation. He's black; Utash is white.
