WALKER, Mich. (AP) -- A tree and part of a road have been dedicated to the memory of a West Michigan police on the one-year anniversary of his death.
WOOD-TV reports that the dedication ceremony was held Saturday for slain Walker police officer Trevor Slot.
The 41-year-old Slot was killed Oct. 13, 2011, while laying down spike strips to stop a speeding sport utility vehicle on Interstate 96 about 15 miles northwest of Grand Rapids after a bank robbery. The suspects crashed after Slot was hit. They were fatally shot by police when they fired at officers.
Part of a roadway -- Remembrance Road -- will be renamed in Slot's honor. The roadway is where Walker public safety and city offices are located.
A private memorial service also was held Saturday.
