The man who spent more than a dozen years promoting Michigan tourism is being honored this week.
George Zimmermann, Vice President of Travel Michigan, was given the Outstanding Achievement in Michigan Tourism Award during the Pure Michigan Governor's Conference on Tourism Tuesday.
He helped launch the successful Pure Michigan campaign in 2006 and was named one of the Top 25 Extraordinary Minds in Hospitality Sales and Marketing in 2012. He was also named State Tourism Director of the Year by his peers in 2011.
Zimmermann recently announced he is retiring from Travel Michigan, effective April 25. Before his work in tourism, he spend more than a decade a broadcasting and wrote three travel-related books.
