SOUTH LYON, Mich. (AP) -- An Oakland County teen is representing Michigan this week at the National Geographic Bee in Washington, D.C.
Philip Huang of South Lyon is one of 54 students competing Monday in the national contest. He's an educated-at-home eighth-grader, who is also representing Washtenaw County Home Educators in the Ann Arbor area.
It will be the second trip the nation's capital for Philip, who won the state competition last month and in 2012.
The top-10 contenders will compete in a final round on Wednesday. The winner gets a $50,000 college scholarship.
