Teen Charged in Attack on Gay Man in Detroit

DETROIT (AP) -- A 16-year-old boy has been charged with assault, two weeks after a young gay man was attacked during a gay pride celebration in Detroit.
The boy appeared Saturday in Wayne County Juvenile Court. He's required to wear an electronic ankle tether if released on bond.
Police say the teen was part of a group of males who punched and kicked 20-year-old Christin Howard on June 8. Assistant prosecutor Jeff Plymale says the teen was "taking away someone's dignity."
Defense attorney Jeff Schwartz says the boy made a bad decision to be among adults when Howard was injured.
A cellphone video shows Howard fighting back. He suffered a broken finger and bruises on his face and back.
