LANSING -- A suspected burglar has been taken to the hospital for a mental evaluation, after a five-hour standoff with police on Lansing's Tecumseh River Road.

Officials say the man barricaded himself inside a home on the road's 1800 block, just off North Grand River Avenue.

According to police, the man was robbing the home and locked himself inside the bedroom when officers arrived. He then tried to set the home on fire.

A SWAT team and more than a dozen Lansing police officers responded when a neighbor reported the break-in.

Police say the man is suffering from mental issues.
