"The kids are really receptive to the severe weather preparedness ideas and making sure their family is safe." -- Rich Pollman, National Weather Service
Hanover-Horton fifth-grader Lauren Hassenzahl is one of four winners of a statewide contest to draw attention to severe weather awareness week. The students were honored at the state capitol Tuesday for winning the poster contest. "If we can get to the kids across the state of Michigan, they take that home to their families and to the community at large," said National Weather Service spokesman Rich Pollman. "The kids are really receptive to the severe weather preparedness ideas and making sure their family is safe." More than 200 students entered the contest. The winners received cash prizes.
