Thousands of people lost power as lines were broken around mid-Michigan in Tuesday afternoon

LANSING - Thousands of people across the Lansing area are without power because of the wind and rain. AT one point the Lansing Board of Water and Light had 2,600 customers without power. As of 5:30pm there were 953 customers without power according to BWL's outage map.

BWL says the outages are scattered around their coverage area. The expect most customers to have their power restored this evening.

Consumers Energy is reporting almost 16-hundred outages in Okemos and nearly 100 in Mason. They should be restored by 8p.m.

Another 190 customers lost power near Eaton Rapids.
