EATON RAPIDS - The alleged theft of a dog leads to a police pursuit and a man's arrest in Eaton County Thursday. At about 4:30 a.m. Eaton Rapids Police responded to a call of the larceny of a dog on West Broad Street.

Officers arrived and took a description of the suspect and his car. Soon an officer located the suspect's car. Police say the driver was driving erratically and they attempted to make a stop at the intersection of M-99 and M-50. The driver refused to stop, and sped north on M-99.

The man crashed a few miles away near Columbia Highway, north of Eaton Rapids, then ran into a wooded area.

No one was hurt. The dog was recovered unharmed at the scene of the crash.

Police say they found several firearms and knives in the man's car, as well as a small amount of illegal drugs.

The suspect, a 26-year-old Lansing man, was taken to the Eaton County Jail, where he awaits charges.
