Facts from the CDC:
- 1 of every 88 children in America have autism
- In 2013, more kids will be diagnosed with autism than AIDS, cancer and diabetes combined
- Boys are five times more likely to be diagnosed with autism than girls
16,000 students in our state have autism, and on Monday, the state will announce its plan to offer better help to them and their families.
This comes from a special board Gov. Snyder created last summer to learn more about autism spectrum disorders.
Lt. Gov. Brian Calley has been a key member of the board and helped pass a law that requires most state-regulated health insurers to offer some coverage for autism treatment. Lt. Gov. Calley has a daughter with autism.
