A handful of state lawmakers think more needs to be done for the Lansing Board of Water and Light to regain the public's trust.
They don't think hiring an emergency manager is enough. Senators Rick Jones (R-Grand Ledge), Gretchen Whitmer (D-East Lansing) and Joe Hune (R-Hamburg Twp.), as well as Rep. Sam Singh (D-East Lansing) blame the leadership and culture at the BWL for its problems.
Those lawmakers recommend a new board structure and makeup, comparing it to the Community Review Team made up of people with various backgrounds and experience.
The bipartisan legislators say new leadership's top priority must be the welfare of its customers, and determining whether the general manager is meeting current challenges and anticipating future ones.
