Stab Wounds Found in House Fire Call

DETROIT (AP) -- Authorities responding to a house fire on Detroit's west side found two people dead along with a man who appeared to have stab wounds.

Detroit Fire Chief of Arson Charles Simms tells the Detroit Free Press that the wounded man was taken from the home Monday to a hospital. Simms says firefighters found the two dead in the basement and one also appeared to have stab wounds.

The Detroit News reports a firefighter was injured responding.

Simms says it appears the fire was intentionally set. The department says it got a 911 call reporting the fire about 1:30 p.m.

Police Sgt. Michael Woody said late Monday it was too early speculate about what happened in the house.

The Associated Press sent a message Tuesday morning seeking updated information to Woody.
