St. Johns Man Faces Prison Time for Embezzlement

A former St. Johns City Commissioner charged with stealing more than $250,000 from a local funeral home is looking at prison time.

David Hudgens pleaded guilty Tuesday to one count of embezzlement over $100,000. He was facing several counts of embezzlement and was set to go on trial next week.

Prosecutors say he stole the money over a six-year period while working as a consultant for Osgood Funeral Home. The owners went to police when they noticed discrepancies from pre-paid funeral accounts.

Hudgens will be back in court January 13 for sentencing, where he faces up to 20 years in prison.
