DETROIT (AP) A prominent and popular downtown Detroit statue has been the subject of many a snapshot and selfie, but it's about to get scanned -- and shrunk.
Employees from Oxford-based CAM Logic Inc. plan to spend several hours Thursday morning at the Spirit of Detroit with a laser scanner to digitally capture it and create a miniature statue using 3-D printing. Organizers say the scanner won't touch the beloved statue.
The 3-D model is being created for next month's RAPID Conference, which focuses on 3-D printing and related technology. The conference is hosted by the nonprofit organization SME and will be held at the nearby Cobo Center.
CAM Logic will be an exhibitor at the conference.
