Sparrow Hospital is urging patients with flu-like symptoms to contact their primary physicians, or urgent care facilities before going to the emergency room.
The U.S. Centers for Disease Control says that high levels of flu-like illnesses are being seen around the country. Flu patients typically experience symptoms including fever, chills, body aches, fatigue, or nausea. They suggest getting plenty of rest at home, and drinking plenty of fluids to help get over it.
Carol Dwyer, Sparrow Vice President of Nursing, says"We want to ensure all of our patients are receiving quality, compassionate care in a a timely manner. Many of these patients are choosing to come to the emergency department, but we recommend first visiting your primary physician, or one of Sparrow's two urgent care locations in order to avoid longer wait times."
Another benefit for patients to consider: seeing your personal physician, can allow you to avoid increased costs, including higher co-pay charges for emergency room visits.
