EAST LANSING - US-127 in the Lansing-East Lansing area re-opens after a car accident closed the southbound lanes for two hours. The accident happened near Mt. Hope Road. Police say that the car caught fire, and the driver bailed out of the vehicle while it was still in motion. The driver is hospitalized. The extent of the injuries is unknown. Traffic on the busy stretch of highway was backed up for miles. The back-up spilled onto I-496, which feeds into US-127. The accident cleared at about 3:30p.m.
