Gov. Rick Snyder says he has filed a motion with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission opposing the proposed closing of a pipeline he says now supplies about a third Michigan's natural gas.
Snyder filed the motion Wednesday against Trunkline Gas Co.'s request to abandon the pipeline. It runs from Gulf of Mexico to White Pigeon, just north of the Indiana line in southwestern Michigan.
Snyder says the Michigan Public Service Commission and CMS Energy Corp. also filed motions against the request.
The governor says the pipeline is vital infrastructure for Michigan's economy and needed to assure homes and businesses have a source of fuel for heat.
Trunkline Gas is a unit of Energy Transfer Equity. The Associated Press left phone messages seeking company comment after business hours Wednesday.
