DETROIT (AP) -- Snow showers and below-freezing temperatures are providing a white Thanksgiving for much of Michigan but also slick roads and car crashes.
WWJ-AM reports numerous problems Thursday on Detroit area roads, including spinouts and closures of several stretches of freeway. The snow was leaving a festive blanket on Detroit's annual Thanksgiving Day parade but snarling traffic to and from the event as well as the Detroit Lions' annual home football game.
Meteorologist Steve Considine of the National Weather Service office in Oakland County's White Lake Township says only about an inch of snow is forecast but frigid temperatures are ensuring it sticks.
Lake effect snow brought about a foot to some parts of southwestern Michigan, including Berrien County. A winter weather advisory remains until Thursday evening for counties near Lake Michigan.
