If you don't know how to ski or snowboard, now's your chance to learn without spending a lot of money.

Several ski areas offer the Discover Michigan Skiing program, including some close to mid-Michigan like Mt. Brighton in Brighton and Pine Knob in Clarkston. Many areas in northern Michigan, including Boyne Mountain, Boyne Highlands, Treetops Resort and Nub's Nob participate as well.

Beginners can get lessons, rental equipment and a ski lift pass. The cost ranges from $20-$40, depending on whether you want to learn to downhill ski, cross-country ski, or snowboard.

The package runs through the end of January.
