UPDATE: I-96 Reopens Following Semi Accident

UPDATE: 8PM: Ionia County Central Dispatch confirms I-96 has reopened.

UPDATE 4:30PM: From MSP on scene of the I-96 semi crash. MSP has opened I-96 to exit 67 (Ionia/ M-66 exit). West bound traffic will continue across M-66 and re-enter I-96 via the west bound entrance ramp. The crash site is apparently between the entrance and exit ramps for mm 67 (Ionia Exit/Entrance).

IONIA CO. - A accident continues to keep traffic at a crawl along I-96 west of Portland. The accident involved two semi tractor trailers and a passenger bus. It happened shortly after 11 o'clock Monday morning in the west bound lanes of I-96 near mile marker 67. Westbound I-96 between Exit 73 and M-66 have been closed since then.

One person was air-lifted to a hospital. We do not know the extent of the injuries, or if anyone else was hurt in the accident.

The frequently traveled highway experienced backups over 10 miles long, as cars and trucks were diverted to the two-lane Grand River Avenue, just north of the highway.

AS of 3:45pm, Michigan State Police have not released details on the accident or the condition of the person flown to the hospital.
