A serious accident involving a semi truck shut down I-96 near Webberville Monday afternoon.

Officials said the semi blew a tire and then drove off the road into trees bursting into flames.

There were no fatalities. The driver of the semi was pulled from the truck and rushed to Sparrow Hospital.

Police were able to open up one westbound lane shortly after the crash to clear people out of the area. Traffic was more congested than usual because the crash happened during rush hour.

The truck was carrying a load of air filters. Hazmat crews were called to the scene as a precaution to deal with the fuel cleanup.

Crews expected to be on the scene until nightfall to finish cleaning up.
