KALAMAZOO (AP) -- In time for Memorial Day, a 16-year-old Eagle Scout in Kalamazoo has cleaned hundreds of headstones marking the graves of World War II veterans.
Ian Wales of Hackett Catholic Central High School borrowed three power washers and got $100 for supplies to clean the headstones at Kalamazoo Riverside Cemetery. He says many were black and grey while others had sunk into the ground, obscuring letters and numbers.
Kalamazoo County's veterans director, Don Jarzambek, tells the Kalalmazoo Gazette (http://bit.ly/Lyd3y6) it's "amazing" that kids are interested in doing patriotic activities. With public money short, he says it's important for the public step up and remember its veterans.
