Schauer to Choose Former State Rep as Running Mate

By  |

A campaign email obtained by The Associated Press says Democratic gubernatorial candidate Mark Schauer has chosen Oakland County Clerk Lisa Brown as his running mate in this year's election.
The email sent to supporters Wednesday says the announcement of Brown will come in a series of news conferences Thursday. Schauer is challenging incumbent Republican Gov. Rick Snyder.
She's been clerk since 2013. Before that, she served four years in the Michigan House. Republicans leaders banned her from speaking on the House floor in June of 2012 after she said, "And finally, Mr. Speaker, I'm flattered you're all so interested in my vagina but no means no" during an abortion debate.
Brown most recently was one of four county clerks who issued marriage licenses to same-sex couples a day after a federal judge overturned the state's ban on them and before a federal appeals panel suspended the marriages.
A Schauer campaign spokesman won't comment. The Associated Press left a message for Brown on Wednesday afternoon.
