SOUTHFIELD -- Michigan gubernatorial candidate Mark Schauer says he's picked a running mate who will fight for the middle class.
Schauer announced Thursday that he's chosen Oakland County Clerk Lisa Brown as his candidate for lieutenant governor on the Democratic ticket.
Schauer is holding news conferences in Southfield, Flint and Grand Rapids. The former congressman from Battle Creek is challenging Republican Gov. Rick Snyder.
Brown was one of four county clerks who issued marriage licenses to same-sex couples a day after a federal judge overturned the state's ban on gay marriage. A federal appeals court subsequently suspended the judge's decision.
Schauer says he applauds Brown and other clerks for opening offices for same sex-marriage licenses.
Brown was elected clerk in 2012 after serving four years in the Michigan House.
