"We want to create an economy that works for everyone, not just for the wealthy and the well connected.  We want to create an economy that works for women and for families."

Democratic gubernatorial candidate Mark Schauer said Wednesday he'd push to restore the $600 child income tax credit if elected. The credit was repealed to help pay for Governor Rick Snyder's business-tax cut in 2011. Schauer also said he wants to require companies with more than 50 employees to offer three months of unpaid medical leave to their employee. In addition, he's pushing for tougher penalties for companies guilty of wage discrimination. "We want to create an economy that works for everyone, not just for the wealthy and the well connected. We want to create an economy that works for women and for families," he told wilx.com during a campaign stop in Lansing. Governor Snyder leads Schauer in three polls released last week. The Democratic challenger is within the margin of error in two of them.
