The IRS is warning people in Michigan not to fall victim to scammers.

The Internal Revenue Service is getting an increasing number of phone calls from people experiencing a new sophisticated scam to steal tax returns and identities.

The scammers use emails and caller ID to trick consumers into thinking they really are communicating with the IRS.

Wednesday the IRS spoke with WILX to increase awareness about the problem.
