LANSING (WILX) - If your New Year's Eve plans include a bottle of champagne... Or two... Line up a sober driver before you pop the cork.
There is more than one way to get home tonight if you find yourself unable to drive says Michigan State Trooper Drew Spencer.
"Cab companies are going to be open especially with the holiday and I'm sure they are expecting a late night with people going to the bars and partying," said Spencer.
There will be extra patrol out tonight looking for those who violate driving laws.
"I like to be out there making sure things get done properly," said Spencer.
That's why CATA transportation has a long tradition of giving safe rides on New Years Eve.
"Its a good option for those who want to party tonight and not want to drive home," said CATA Assistant Executive Director Debbie Alexander.
CATA safe rides will be available from 8pm-3am. Anyone can call the hot-line at 394-CATA (2282) to be picked up at one of the designated CATA bus stops and dropped off at or near your home.
"You just have to pay $1.25 unless you are a senior, with a disability, or student , then it is 60 cents with the appropriate id," explained Alexander.
If you're the one throwing the party tonight have the number of a taxi service on hand for those who need a ride. And keep plenty of food on hand, so your guests aren't drinking on an empty stomach.
