Lansing, MI - A man is in the hospital after flipping his car into the Grand River early Friday morning.

The Lansing Fire Department says the driver was headed east on Moores River Drive near Mount Hope after midnight, when he hit the dirt, flipped into the air and landed in the water.

Neighbors and bystanders heard the crash and rushed to help the driver get out of the sinking vehicle.

By the time firefighters arrived, they told News Ten the SUV was completely under water.

Boats were sent out to try and locate it with no success. Dive teams will go back into the water Friday at daylight, now that LFD has confirmed that no one was in the vehicle.

The crash is still under investigation and there is no word on the driver's condition at this time.
