COLUMBIA, Md. (AP) -- Police say a 19-year-old from suburban Washington was the gunman in yesterday's deadly shootings at a Maryland shopping mall.

Police say Darion Marcus Aguilar of College Park, Md., used a 12-gauge shotgun to kill two people at a store in the Mall in Columbia before killing himself. They say it took hours to identify the shooter since he was carrying ammunition and a backpack containing crude homemade explosives.

Police say officers found more ammunition and other evidence when they searched Aguilar's home last night.

Howard County Police Chief William McMahon says there are still "a lot of unanswered questions," including a motive. He says investigators are trying to determine whether Aguilar knew either of the victims and whether he had a criminal record.

The victims have been identified as 21-year-old Brianna Benlolo of College Park, Md., and 25-year-old Tyler Johnson of Ellicott City, Md. Both worked at a skateboard shop called Zumiez.

Police searched the mall with dogs overnight. The stores will remain closed through Tuesday.
