MUSKEGON, Mich. (AP) -- A forestry assistance program has been started by the Muskegon Conservation District.

MLive.com reports that the district has announced a public information meeting for 6 p.m. on Jan. 21 at the White Lake Community Library.

The forestry assistance program will provide free consultation on forest management issues to Muskegon County landowners, including habitat concerns and how to prepare properties for timber sale.

District forester A. J. Smith says the program is "really a great opportunity for those landowners who may be interested in forest management, but don't really know where to begin."
