One Michigan State University student died from what health officials say could be bacterial meningitis. At this point, it may just be an isolated incident but some students say many were affected in another way.

"I think it affected the whole campus because we lost a Spartan. That was the biggest thing," said MSU student Everette Nichols.

Late Thursday night, 19-year-old Carly Glynn was taken to Sparrow Hospital in Lansing and died a few hours later. The cause of death has not been confirmed yet, but just the possibility of meningitis is enough to make the university react quickly. That's because two students died from it in 1997 and another in 2002. In 1999, one student contracted the disease and recovered, leading many more to get vaccinated.

Glynn was a resident at the Snyder-Phillips residence hall and some students there say they've been vaccinated and are urging others to do the same.

"Everybody should be vaccinated because stuff like this happens...You don't really think it will but it happens and happens quick," said MSU student Alexia Wallick.

Meanwhile, other students say they're taking extra precautions to protect themselves

"Pay a little closer attention to make sure I'm always washing my hands and not touching my face," said MSU student Reid Eriksen.

Health officials say they're still waiting on final test results to confirm what caused Glynn's death.
