Last week, police encouraged parents to ask about guns before sending their child off to a friend or neighbor's house. It was part of a nationwide initiative called "Ask Day" on the first day of summer, now that kids are out of school and playing in other people's homes.
Now, police are giving away a tool to make sure those guns are secure. The Jackson Police Department has a limited supply of cable-style gun locks thanks to Project ChildSafe, a nationwide program that encourages gun owners to safely store weapons and ammunition in their homes.
Just stop by the Jackson Police Department at 216 E. Washington Avenue between 6am and 10pm to get your free gun lock.
