A woman had a gun pointed at her in broad daylight Tuesday.

Lansing police tell us a man tried forcing her back into her car in the parking lot in the 1400 block of East Michigan Avenue. in Lansing around 10:15 a.m.

She threw her purse at him instead and he took off.

Nearby business owners weren't surprised to hear about it. Some say the area has seen a lot of violent crime.

"The criminal element is getting more brazen," said Steve Blair, who co-owns Fabiano's Candy. "They're not afraid of getting caught, not afraid of doing things in the daylight, and they're not afraid to carry weapons, display them, to get what they want. We tell our employees, 'Give them what they want, and get away.'"

Police and canine units were not able to catch the man.

Two nearby schools, Eastern High School and Resurrection Elementary School were put on lockdown for about an hour as a precaution.
