GALESBURG, Mich. (AP) -- Authorities say a 16-year-old boy who was walking his bicycle across railroad tracks was struck and killed by a passenger train in southwestern Michigan.
TV stations WWMT, WXMI and WOOD report that the Wolverine Line Amtrak train was heading from Chicago to Pontiac on Monday night at the time of the collision in Galesburg, about 50 miles southeast of Grand Rapids. Amtrak says 205 people were on the train.
No one aboard the train was injured.
Galesburg police Sgt. Jeff Heppler tells the Kalamazoo Gazette that Tyler Beischl was hit about 7 p.m. while crossing the tracks near a road crossing that's closed for construction.
The sergeant says "it appears that he never saw the train."
