PERRY, Mich. (AP) -- Authorities have released the name and hometown of a 23-year-old man who was walking when a freight train struck and killed him in the Shiawassee County community of Perry.
Perry police tell The Argus Press of Owosso that he was Joseph Holloway of Durand.
The Canadian National Railway Co. operates a freight line that runs through Perry.
CN spokeswoman Lindsay Fedchyshyn in Concord, Ontario, says that one of its freight trains was westbound on the line when it struck a male pedestrian at a crossing in Perry about 1 a.m. Saturday. She says the crossing's gate, warning bells and flashing lights were working at the time.
Perry is about 20 miles east-northeast of Lansing.
