A man was in critical, but stable condition this morning at Sparrow Hospital following an accident at the intersection of Cedar Street and Edgewood Boulevard just after midnight.
Police say a red Dodge Neon rear-ended a Hummer. The driver of the Neon was unconscious when police arrived. Firefighters had to cut off the roof of the car to extract him.
Five people who were in the Hummer got medical care for minor injuries.
The police investigation of the accident shut down the Cedar & Edgewood intersection for four hours. When the investigation ended this morning, police told us they believed the driver of the Neon was at fault, based on statement from witnesses and people in the other vehicle. However, police had not yet been able to speak with the driver, who remained unconscious in critical, yet stable condition.
Police say it looks like the driver of the Neon did not sustain major injuries. They say everybody in both vehicles was wearing a seatbelt.
