CENTERVILLE TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) -- A woman has pleaded guilty in a traffic accident that killed a 4-year-old boy who was riding his tricycle along the side of a Northern Michigan road.
The Traverse City Record-Eagle reports Saturday that 63-year-old Gertrude Shorter of Kasson Township faces a June 24 sentencing in Leelanau County for failing to stop at the scene of an accident causing serious injury or death.
Gavin Punter was hit last July by a van as he rode a tricycle next to his grandmother in Centerville Township, about 12 miles northwest of Traverse City.
Sheriff's Lt. Clint Kerr has said Shorter "got out of her car, stood around while everybody was frantically searching for the little boy" before driving off.
