Playing Politics in Prison Break

Dems take aim at GOP for making costly cuts to MDOC.

Empty prison cell

Did cuts to public safety-- like prison jobs-- play a role in a killer's escape from the Ionia Correctional Facility?
House Democrats think so and are calling for an independent investigation into how Michael Elliot got away the night of the Super Bowl.
The Dems say Republicans cut $15 million dollars from prison perimeter safety funding last year.
A spokesperson for Republican House Speaker Jase Bolger points out there was a perimeter vehicle on patrol that night and according to the Department of Corrections, it drove within 20-feet of Elliot.
