The finalists for a community grant program have been announced, and one of them hopes the money will make an impact for years to come.
Downtown Lansing's Pitch a Project idea is to hold a free welcome back event for college kids, given the thousands of students at MSU, LCC, Cooley Law and Davenport University. The idea would be to bring the students into local businesses and restaurants.
The Pitch a Project campaign is sponsored by the Lansing Lugnuts and Fifth Third Bank.
There are 12 finalists. Four of them will get $1,000 to make their idea a reality.
Some of the other ideas include creating an educational video about service dogs and how they can help children with autism, a night at the ballpark for hundreds of kids who've never been to a professional baseball game, and a back-to-school event for low-income kids.
