Frozen Michigan Waterfall Makes "Best Of 2013 Photos" in Outside Magazine

A photographer captured an amazing shot of ice climbers scaling a frozen waterfall at Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore.

Luke Tikkanen's picture made Outside Magazine's "Best of 2013" photos and we just had to share it. It shows ice climbers Austin Fogt and Ross Herr climbing a 175-foot iron-stained frozen waterfall on the Pictured Rocks in Lake Superior.

The 23-year-old Northern Michigan University student Austin Fogt, who is pictured climbing halfway up the waterfall, was quoted in the magazine as saying, “I was supposed to be in class at Northern Michigan University but played hooky to climb. It was actually a really bad day to skip, because I was supposed to be helping out on a big group final. But missing out on that climb would have been worse. Besides, I still managed to graduate.”

Luke Tikkanen, who took the picture, used a Canon T2i with a 50mm f/1.8 lens, ISO 200, f/1.8, 1/1,600 second. To see what other pictures made the list, click on the link below.
