WATERFORD TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) -- Southeastern Michigan authorities say an ex-con out on parole has surrendered as suspect in the theft of $1,200 from the purse of a 90-year-old woman at a grocery store.

Fifty-year-old Deborah Simmons was arraigned Sunday. She's being held in the Oakland County jail, which couldn't provide her lawyer's name.

Authorities say that Simmons came to a police station with her lawyer on Saturday to surrender.

Security camera images showed Simmons at a Meijer store in Waterford Township where the theft happened July 30, and tips led to her identification.

Police say the victim told investigators she was shopping for produce when someone stole her cart with her purse in it. It was located a few aisles away, with the cash and several credit cards missing.

Simmons has multiple fraud convictions.
