With flu season in full force earlier than usual, health professionals continue to urge those who have not yet been vaccinated to do so. It is recommended that everyone age 6 months old and older get a flu shot. Some children between the ages of 6 months and 8 years require two doses of the vaccine.
The increase in flu-like cases has also prompted Memorial Healthcare officials to implement the following visiting guidelines until further notice:
· Visitors, aged 13+, will be permitted to visit only if they are healthy (no symptoms of any illness)
· No visitors aged 12 and under
· Only healthy parents and grandparents will be permitted on the OB floor (Family Birth Place)
· Runny or stuffy nose
· Sore throat
· Dry cough
· Fever (usually 100 F or more)
· Body aches
Individuals presenting at Memorial's Emergency Department with respiratory symptoms will be required to wear a mask. Health officials urge residents to take the extra precautionary steps, if you or your child feel sick, stay home to prevent the spread of the virus. Also, see your doctor if symptoms persist.
Shiawassee County Health Department still has plenty of doses available and will continue to offer both the regular dose and the flu mist. Contact (989) 743-2356 to schedule an appointment.
