One republican is out and another is in for the race to fill Congressman Mike Rogers' seat in the 8th District.
Senator Joe Hune announced Thursday he'd rather focus on rebuilding Michigan and seek re-election for his senate seat, which covers Livingston, Shiawassee and the southern part of Ingham County.
In instead, is Representative Tom McMillin of Rochester Hills. He spoke to WILX Thursday afternoon, saying he's out gathering petition signatures now and had been waiting on Senator Hune's decision.
Other republicans running for the 8th District include former State Senate Majority Leader Mike Bishop and Rochester Hills Mayor Bryan Barnett. On the democratic side, candidates include former state demographer Ken Darga and Central Michigan University professor Susan Grettenberger.
Congressman Mike Rogers announced last month he is retiring and taking a job with a national radio talk show.
