FRANKENMUTH TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) -- Officials say four people escaped injury during a small plane crash in a Michigan corn field.

WSGW-AM reports the plane went down Wednesday evening in Saginaw County's Frankenmuth Township, about 75 miles northwest of Detroit.

The plane took off from William "Tiny" Zehnder airport, near Frankenmuth, roughly 15 minutes before the crash. The station says the pilot reported engine trouble before the crash and the pilot was trying to get back to the airport when the plane went down.

The crash is under investigation.
