Details of a new national program to improve how the uninsured receive prescription medication are expected to be released in Detroit.
Medco Foundation and Dispensary of Hope will unveil the program at 9:30 a.m. Monday at the Joy-Southfield Development Corp. on the city's west side. U.S. Rep. John Conyers also is expected to speak.
The initiative is designed to improve the supply, delivery and management of prescriptions at free health clinics in Detroit and 14 other cities across the country. It includes prescriptions for chronic conditions like diabetes and asthma.
Dispensary of Hope is a not-for-profit providing access to medicine for those without prescription coverage. Medco Foundation promotes health and medical safety. Both say America's working poor often can't afford medications prescribed by doctors.
