New Security Measures in Place for Bridge Walk

If you plan on walking across the Mackinac Bridge next week, leave as much as you can in the car.

Michigan State Police will be checking bags, purses, and backpacks to make sure the Labor Day Bridge Walk is a safe one.

On Monday, 40,000 walkers are expected to make the five mile trek across the bridge. Governor Rick Snyder will lead the way starting at 7 a.m.

The walk is in its 56th year. It's the only time of the year pedestrians are allowed on the bridge.

If you're walking, take some pictures and share them on MDOT's Instagram and Twitter feeds. You might just win a trip to the top of the bridge.
